The Residential Experience

Some students may prefer to live at College, rather than travel daily. Residential accommodation, on a half board basis, is available at the College, and places can be allocated to enrolled full-time students on an annual basis.

The College has accommodation for 182 students in single and twin rooms, the majority of which are equipped with en-suite bathrooms.

The College does not manage any accommodation off site.

Students who accept the offer of a place at the College can apply for a place in the residences, and can indicate their preferred type of accommodation. The College cannot guarantee that the preferred type of accommodation will be offered, and reserves the right to reject an application for residence, or offer an alternative type, when necessary.

Demand for residential places regularly exceeds the number of places available and as such rooms are allocated using defined priorities. A copy of the criteria for the allocation of places will be provided upon request.

For information on financial assistance with meeting the costs of residence, see the page on Financial Support.

Commercial Experience Residence

Subject to availability, the College is able to offer rooms on a weekly basis for students who need to be resident during their period of commercial experience on the farm, equestrian yard or animal care unit. When the commercial experience week is known, the student should book a room with the Hotel Services Manager by paying the fee in advance. During this time, the student enjoys the same privileges, and responsibilities, as other residents.

Support for Residents

The Student Welfare Manager co-ordinates the welfare support available to all resident students.

The team of resident wardens assist elected student officers to plan and organise social events including regular discos, karaoke, entertainers, and the end of year Ball.

College Sports Facilities

Students studying on all courses can make use of the College sports facilities. The fitness suite in the John Ashby Sports Hall houses a wide range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment, and a free weights gymnasium is located at the Pitsford Centre Sports Arena. A number of the sports facility staff are trained as fitness instructors and personal trainers to help members with their exercise requirements. To support sports studies students, the College employs a full-time fitness and conditioning coach. Resident students and all those following sports studies courses are entitled to free use of the sports resources, subject to availability. Students on all courses can join the fitness suite at a reduced rate. In addition, students can join a number of sports clubs and teams including fencing, netball, football, kickboxing, karate and street dance.
