Many employers also invest in staff development through funding the completion of university-level courses on a part-time basis. We have many part-time construction students who are working to complete HNC’s and degrees in Construction Management or Civil Engineering with their employer’s support.
We also offer a Higher Apprenticeship in Construction (Sustainable Built Environment) which is a very popular option with employers, allowing apprentices to gain a HND as part of the Diploma they complete.
Our Higher Apprenticeship offers the chance to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to excel in a range of high level, construction based roles. This is a Level 5 apprenticeship where apprentices will be able to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in the workplace through the Level 5 NVQ whilst at the same time extending their learning at college through the HND Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment.
The qualification is offered on three pathways: Construction Management, Civil Engineering and Building Services Engineering and covers a wide range of professional job roles. The Higher Apprenticeship in Construction is extremely dynamic in nature and will allow the student to clearly evidence modern methods of design, construction and maintenance of the built environment in action.
Students have the opportunity to apply critical reasoning and analysis techniques to solve built environment and engineering problems. Industry standards, appropriate codes of practice and work-based evidence are used during the apprenticeship thereby developing personal and business skills which will ensure the demands of a professional environment can be met.
To start a Higher Apprenticeship students need to be 18 years or older and have prior achievement of a Level 3 qualification. Experienced candidates can be offered places subject to successful assessment of their prior learning and/or experience.
