Animal Welfare and Veterinary Health CoursesFacilitiesThe College’s Animal Welfare facilities encompass a purpose built Animal Welfare Centre, an Animal Therapy Centre housing grooming and canine hydrotherapy units, an on-site commercial veterinary practice and commercial Pet Store. The Animal Welfare Centre houses in excess of one hundred species of common and exotic mammals, birds, cold water and tropical fish, invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles. Animal accommodation boasts a range of specialist housing including a cattery, aviaries, reptile room and paddocks containing the large mammals such as Kune Kune pigs, Bennett’s wallaby and Rhea. Currently Moulton College holds membership to the Pet Care Trust, a Pet Shop licence and is in the process of applying for a Dangerous Wild Animal licence in order to further increase the range of species on site. The Animal Therapy Centre consists of an extensive commercial grooming parlour with electric grooming tables and specialist grooming equipment and a commercial Canine Hydrotherapy pool and treadmill allowing direct involvement by the hydrotherapist and owner. A modern kennelling block complements this superb facility. The on-site commercial veterinary centre is directly adjacent to a purpose built veterinary classroom which allows viewing of operations and procedures via an audio visual link and specialist viewing windows. The College is also a Veterinary Nursing Approved Centre working in collaboration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to approve practices as training establishments and to ensure quality of training is maintained. Students studying Animal Management programmes at Moulton College are also taught on the College estate and are given the opportunity to be involved with milking, lambing and shearing. The Estate comprises 600 hectares, 350 dairy cows, 1000 North Country Mule sheep and a demonstration beef unit. For further details please see the Agriculture section. CoursesStudents are encouraged throughout their course to undertake additional qualifications alongside their main qualification. These may include areas such as Animal First Aid, Human First Aid, Safe Manual Handling, Veterinary Assistant, Administration of Veterinary Medication, and Safe Use of Mowers.
