Equine Studies CoursesEquine StudiesMoulton College offers a range of equestrian related courses from City and Guilds level one to Masters Degree level. The new and improved facilities at the Equestrian Centre include a 70m x 40m covered riding arena, with spectator seating, changing facilities, clothing shop, judges area, and stabling for sixty horses. The recently opened equine veterinary practice includes an operating theatre that will enable students to observe surgery taking place on horses. The hydrotherapy pool and water treadmill give students ‘hands on’ access to the latest techniques for training and rehabilitating horses, through the commercial Equine Therapy Centre. The Centre has recently been accredited by the British Horseracing Board as a training facility. The Equestrian Centre is approved by the British Horse Society as a Training and Examination Centre and also comprises two outdoor arenas 60m x 25m and 40m x 20m, a cross country course and schooling field for novice horses and riders, comprising British Horse Society pre-novice and novice fences and exercise paddocks. There are also hacking routes around the college estate. The Equestrian Centre regularly hosts competitions, lectures, demonstrations and equine events. Students are actively involved in the organisation of competitions and events and are encouraged to compete in them. Regular master classes are held with top national and international riders and trainers. Students may bring their own horses to College subject to approval. The College operates several different types of livery agreement, including student full livery and varying levels of working livery. Further information is available on request. The Moulton College Dressage Academy allows students with a strong interest in dressage the opportunity to undergo extra regular professional coaching from national dressage trainers and judges. Students are also supported by College tutors in regular dressage development sessions. This enables students to fulfil their potential and ambitions. Academy students were regularly placed in British Dressage competitions during 2008/9 including qualifying for area festivals and were well on the way to qualifying for regional festivals. Students who are currently competing in dressage competitions are actively encouraged to bring their horses to training sessions and may be supported when competing at College. Students can also bring their horses to College on one of the wide range of livery services available at the Equestrian Centre including ‘Do It Yourself’ (DIY). Students have the opportunity to achieve a minimum of two additional qualifications per academic year as part of their further education courses, and these could include, a First Aid Certificate, Safe Lifting, Safe Working In the Equine Industry and British Horse Society stages (subject to completing their main qualification course work) to mention a few. Equine students have achieved a 97% pass rate in BHS stages exams over the last three years (membership of the British Horse Society is necessary if students are to take BHS qualifications). Moulton College courses start to develop many practical and theoretical skills that are transferable to many different areas of the workforce of today. CoursesStudents are encouraged throughout their course to undertake additional qualifications alongside their main qualification. Key Skills are also incorporated into the programmes of study on offer. Equine Studies Student Profiles![]() Paula Zurawel
