Fees Guidance

Category 1:
Applies to students who are:

  • Undertaking unfunded courses (meaning that there is no Fee Remission available)
  • Aged 19 or over on their start date and who are undertaking a level 3 or level 4 course. * See Fee Category 3 if aged 19–23 years and undertaking your first full level 3 qualification*.

Some of these courses may qualify for an Advanced Learning Loan. For further information please contact Student Services on 01604 491131 or visit Advanced Learning Loans on Gov.uk to see if the course you are applying for qualifies for an Advanced Learning Loan.

Category 2:

Applies to students undertaking funded courses but who do not qualify for fee remission due to their age, previous qualifications or because they are not in receipt of the relevant benefits.

Category 2 students are co-funded and will be required to pay a Tuition Fee (and Exam Fee where appropriate) to contribute towards the cost of their course.

Category 3:

Applies to students undertaking funded courses who qualify for Tuition and Exam Fee remission. To qualify for Tuition and Exam Fee remission you must be:

  • Aged 19 -23 on your start date and studying an entry level or level 1 course, aiming to progress onto your first full level 2 qualification.
  • Aged 19 -23 on your start date and studying your first full level 2 qualification.
  • Aged 19 -23 on your start date and studying your first full level 3 qualification.
  • Aged 19-23  on your  start date, studying an entry level / level 1 / level 2 course and:         
  • Be in receipt of Job Seeker’s Allowance (applicable to part time courses only)        
  • Be in receipt of Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group.       
  • Be in receipt of Universal Credit, earning less than £330 per month or less than 16 x the relevant National Minimum Wage per week. You must be in one of the following groups: All Work Related Requirements Group, Work Preparation Group or Work Focussed Interview Group.      
  • Be in receipt of Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit or Income Support, earning less than £330 per month or less than 16 x the relevant National Minimum Wage per week. You must be undertaking this qualification in order to enter employment.
  • Aged 24 or over on your start date, studying an entry level / level 1 or  level 2 course and:    
  • Be in receipt of Job Seeker’s Allowance (applicable to part time courses only).              
  • Be in receipt of Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group.    
  • Be in receipt of Universal Credit, earning less than £330 per month or less than 16 x the relevant National Minimum Wage per week. You must be in one of the following groups: All Work Related Requirements Group, Work Preparation Group or Work Focussed Interview Group.                         
  • Be in receipt of Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit or Income Support, earning less than £330 per month or less than 16 x the relevant National Minimum Wage per week. You must be undertaking this qualification in order to enter employment.
  • Aged 19  or over on your start date and studying an entry level / level1 / level 2 qualification where you already have a level 2 qualification (which is not the same as the qualification you want to study). You must:                                                                                                
  • Be in receipt of Job Seeker’s Allowance (applicable to part time courses only).
  • Be in receipt of Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group.        
  • Be in receipt of Universal Credit, earning less than £330 per month or less than 16 x the relevant National Minimum Wage per week. You must be in one of the following groups: All Work Related Requirements Group, Work Preparation Group or Work Focussed Interview Group.                           
  • Be in receipt of Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit or Income Support, earning less than £330 per month or less than 16 x the relevant National Minimum Wage per week. You must be undertaking this qualification in order to enter employment.

Please note that in order to have your fees waived you will be required to sign a Fee Remission Declaration form. You will need to provide us with your highest level of qualification or full employment / unemployment information when you enrol in order to have your fees waived; we cannot process fee remission without this information in place.
