The History of Higher Education at Moulton

The College has a long history of delivering programmes leading to higher education qualifications. For over 20 years, the College provided the Pre-University course, the only one of its kind in the country, which for most students was a pre-requisite to being accepted by a University onto an Agriculture degree programme.

In 1993, the College began to deliver Equine Studies modules for the Combined Honours degree offered by Nene College, now the University of Northampton. This quickly led to the development of a Higher National Diploma in Equine Studies, and two years later, to the development of a one year Top-up degree, offering students the opportunity to convert their HND to a full BSc honours degree.

Other programmes were developed following the same '2 plus 1' pattern and from 2002, the College began to replace some of the HNDs with Foundation Degrees, as well as offering direct entry onto three year Honours Degree programmes. In 2006, the first taught Masters Degree in Animal Welfare was launched.

In 1999, the College registered its first post-graduate research students, and the first PhD was awarded in 2004.

Many Moulton College courses are over subscribed and become fully recruited very quickly, so early application is recommended.

The College has received direct funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) since 2007. All higher education diplomas and degrees delivered at Moulton College are now validated by the University of Northampton
