Content of the day
- Welcome and introduction to the day - An introduction to Holdenby, trees and their parts, animal senses and habitats and the 'careful collectors code'.
- Sensory Walk - Starting with the 'Hedgehog Game' to find out how hedgehogs use their senses, children then take a walk and use their senses to discover smells, colours and textures in the environment, collecting items in special treasure boxes.
- Exploring the Woodland - Children use their senses again to explore trees in the woodland. They follow a short blindfold trail and use leafy-o-meters and mirrors to explore the canopy. Children can identify the different parts of the tree and collect bark rubbings, leaves and fruit (seasonal). Children then investigate the minibeasts living on the tree.
- Lunch
- Art Gallery - Time for the children to make their own artwork using the discoveries they made in the morning. Children can choose to make their own minibeast or to use a selection of the items gathered in their treasure boxes to make a picture/collage.
- Round-up/question time - A chance to compare our findings and creations from the day.
