Research - EquineThe horse has evolved over millions of years to combine power with athletic ability and can demonstrate a huge range of sporting performance from sprinting to long-distance endurance. The levels of performance demanded in today's highly competitive world mean that to maximise performance the equine athlete must be in peak physical condition. Research and development in the fields of maximising athletic ability, optimal training for the horse and rider, nutrition and therapy are central to supporting the horse in performance sport. Moulton College offers a well equipped equestrian centre housing a variety of horses. In addition a horse walker, weigh bridge and indoor arena are sited at the College's Pitsford Centre. These can be used for trial work and controlled exercise tests, in addition to a gait-analysis system, heart-rate monitors and a body analysis machine. The College also houses a state of the art equine therapy centre which includes an equine swimming pool, aqua-treadmill, solarium and spa unit. Research is currently being carried out to consider the effect of hydrotherapy on performance and rehabilitation of the horse. As an established and recognised training centre, Moulton College is keen to underpin its equine curriculum with applied research that is of value to the equestrian world and of benefit to the horse in terms of its welfare and management.
