Horticultural and Plant science Biological Sciences

Research Interests and Current Research

Current research funded by the Horticulture Development Council (HDC) and in co-operation with Lancaster University is investigating the application of knowledge from ‘pure’ plant science disciplines to plant propagation by cuttings. The research centres around the interaction between ethylene and auxin in the rooting process and is being conducted using the genus Populus, along with Hardy Ornamental Nursery Stock species.

Rhydian graduated with a BSc(hons) in Biological Sciences (Plant Science) from the University of Edinburgh in 2007 before completing a PGCE in secondary science at Exeter University, after a short spell of teaching he went on to work on a conservation project on Flatholm island in the Bristol channel before taking up the position here at Moulton.

Other research interests include epigenetic mechanisms underlying cellular responses to environmental variability and the conservation of plant genetic resources.
