For the fifth time this season the girls team of Moulton College took on Bilborough College from Nottingham and lost. Unfortunately Moulton and Bilborough are the only two teams playing the East Midlands so they know each others playing style. Bilborough field two England players supported by National League players so Moulton could be reasonably pleased with their performance but the girls were still disappointed not to have picked up a win. The disappointment was even greater for the Moulton girls because with just six minutes of the game remaining they were leading by 5 points. Moulton made the better start to the game with Katie Bayliss and Imogen Cox both connecting with three point attempts. A seven point charge at the end of the first quarter gave Moulton an 18-13 lead at the end of the period. Moulton were playing some hard nosed defence inspired by the 'blocking' power of Chloe Moss and their efforts were frustrating their opponents. For 8 minutes of the second quarter Moulton held the advantage but then the team lost their discipline and allowed Bilborough to score five unanswered points at the end of the period to take a 29-27 half time lead. The two teams exchanged baskets in the third quarter with first Moulton and then Bilborough holding sway. At the end of the period Bilborough still held a two point advantage but Moulton started the fourth period on a high and when Dandy Rolph connected with a long range three-pointer Moulton led 44-39 and were hopeful of recording their first win of the season over Bilborough. With six minutes remaining Bilborough showed their experience and a 12-2 surge saw them to victory over a Moulton team that had given of their all. In the five points set back Katie Bayliss top scored with 14 points well supported by Chloe Moss with 13 points and Esme Kinghorn with 10 points. Basketball"Moulton College have comeback win against Solihull College."British Colleges Midland Conference
A much depleted Moulton College 'A' team travelled to Solihull VIth Form College to play their last British Colleges Midland Conference fixture and picked up a win that earns them second place in the Conference. That placing will earn Moulton a more favourable draw in the post-season Play Offs and was all the more impressive because they came back from a 10 point deficit. The opening stages of the game were dominated by Solihull as they leapt out to a 13-4 lead demonstrating their potent perimeter shooting ability. Moulton on the other hand were struggling at the offensive end but midway through the first period began to find their scoring touch and by the end of the period had closed the gap to 17-14. The start of the second quarter was disaster for Moulton as Solihull produced some very effective basketball which saw them outscore Moulton 13-6 to open up a 10 point lead. A switch to man to man defence by Moulton stopped the scoring surge and forced Solihull into a number of errors which Moulton through point guard Johnny Yates were able to convert into scoring opportunities. In the last five minutes of the period Moulton outscore their opponents 13-7 to close the gap to just four points at 39-35. Moulton's offence still spluttered in the third period but they continued to play determined defence which kept the game competitive. Solihull took the period 15-13 but at 54-48 Moulton knew they were still in the contest. The Moulton coaching staff asked for a continued defensive effort at the start of the fourth quarter and they were rewarded with a number of big defensive plays which led to steals and easy scores. Moulton went on a 12-zero run which saw them take the lead for the first time in the game. Solihull switched to a man to man defence which played in to the hands of the Moulton skipper Jermayne Laing. Despite playing with damaged ribs Laing was able to penetrate the Solihull defence at will with determined drives. Despite a few anxious moments towards the end of the game Moulton held on for the seven points win in which Leon Henry top scored with 22 points. Laing supplied excellent support with 15 points while Johnny Yates and Dan Shaw both chipped in with 10 points. "Moulton College 'B' Team well beaten by New College."British Colleges Midlands Participation League
Despite the problem of injury and non-availability Moulton were still able to turn out a team against New College, Nottingham in the Participation League. New College are a talented side who play a very physical style of basketball and this proved to be too much for the Moulton second string. The boys kept trying their best to the end of the game with Craig Hampton turning in a sterling performance which produced 22 points and 10 rebounds. Previous Sports Reports
