A late rearranged British Colleges Sport Elite East Midlands league game turned out to be a fiercely fought contest between the two teams. Moulton Academy took an early lead with a superbly struck shot from Lewis Legore connecting onto a pass from Dan Mortimer. A second followed shortly after scored by Joe Power latching onto a ball from Enzo Carillo. The home team pulled one back before Moulton Academy scored a third courtesy of Lewis Legore. A combination of tiredness and blistering sun caused Moulton to get pegged back and the home team pulled level to make for an exciting last 15 minutes. From a set piece Josh Menday fired past the keeper to make the final score 4 - 3 in favour of Moulton Academy. Wednesday 22nd April - Leicester College v Moulton College
Playing a second game in two days and in sapping heat, Moulton College Academy travelled the short distance along the A6 to play a scheduled game in the English Colleges Football Association league six. Tiredness and heat made the game exceptionally hard going and as a consequence the game was played at a slow pace with tempers becoming frayed. Two goals either side from Peter Smith and Sam Treadgold sealed the win to cement 3rd spot in the league. Wednesday 22nd April - Bilborough College v Moulton College
A hot day in Nottingham saw Moulton College Girl's football team pit their wits against the current leaders of the East Midlands division. Due to the heat the game was played at a slower pace than usual but despite numerous shots from Bekki Gordon, it was the home team that took the lead after a defensive mix up which saw Shana Haynes sustain an injury. Unable to continue the team was altered to accommodate the arrival of substitute Kelly Barnett and Jordan Bateman deputised in goal. Moulton College piled on more pressure at the start of the second half with Jenna Looker and Claudia Trottman going close. The equaliser came after a fantastic midfield run from Danielle Rolph before letting fly with a vicious right foot screamer which took the netting off its hooks. A goal mouth scramble saw Moulton College come close to taking the lead but it was not to be. The final score Bilborough 1 Moulton College 1. RugbyWednesday 22nd April - BCS E. Midlands Cup Final
Moulton College played Lincoln College in the final of the East Midlands BCS Cup away at a very hot and sunny Ravendale Lane venue. The preparation was not the best as the team had only one training session together after the Easter break and the journey across to the game was a slow and frustrating one. As a result of the journey Moulton only had 25 minutes to get themselves changed warmed up and ready to start the game against a big and physical looking Lincoln side. The team rose to the physical and mental challenge and started very brightly with a great kick off by Mike Hogan and a good chase to re-gather the ball and place Lincoln under early pressure. However this early pressure could not be converted into points and some early in discipline allowed Lincoln to release and gain territory. This good field position gained by Lincoln was soon converted to points as a further ruck infringement allowed for a penalty attempt which was converted giving Lincoln an early 3-0 lead. This proved to be the last points Lincoln would gain as Moulton started to go through the gears producing good set piece ball and this being coupled with slick handling and support play proved to be too much for Lincoln College. This dominance soon paid off and Mike Hogan converted a penalty. The team did not relax after drawing level with captain Danny Brotherton opening the scoring after linking well with Ben Nutley and Sam Ismail. This try opened the flood gates but unfortunately the dominance was not such a happy affair for Mike Hogan having to leave the field with a broken Clavicle and Nick Airey with a calf strain. The replacements fitted in seamlessly with tries coming from Jack Cambel, Corey Hircock, Danny Brotherton and Jack Lines. All this points were unanswered and Moulton went into half time with a commanding 35-3. The second half mirrored the first with an early try from Josh Purnel getting the ball rolling again. The handling and support play was again high and despite a dogged Lincoln College team who never gave up the opportunities to score points were executed ruthlessly with Karl Smith, Corey Hircock, Danny Brotherton, Jack Lines and Will Carrington all getting on the score sheet to finish the game 74-3 in Moulton's favour. Special mention should go to all of the front row and back row who despite not getting on the score sheet provided good first phase ball and aid the foundations for an impressive display. Basketball"Disappointing end to Moulton College's season"British Colleges Play Offs Quarter Final
Moulton College exited the British College Play Offs after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of South East champions Hackney College. The game was won and lost in a five minute spell in the first quarter when with the score at 8-7 Hackney went on a 21-2 charge to take control of the game. Trailing 32-16 after the first period of play things only got worse for Moulton when centre Dan Shaw picked up his third foul and was taken out of the game. Then, Coach Mark Dunning was ejected from the game after a verbal confrontation with the game official. This dismissal seemed to spur the Moulton players into action and they only lost the second period 30-27 to trail 62-43 at halftime. Moulton switched to a half court man to man in the third period and this made them far more competitive. They lost the period 21-19 as Hackney began to play with less intensity. Moulton remained competitive in the fourth quarter until the fifth minute when Dan Shaw fouled out of the game with five fouls. The loss of Shaw saw Hackney take control of the game and they ran out comfortable winners by 103 points to 78. In the 25 point loss Jermayne Laing scored 21 points. Leon Henry supported well with 19 points and Jake Wyatt chipped in with 11 points but no other Moulton player was able to get into double figures. Semi Final
Final
Earlier in the season, Moulton College won the honour of representing the East Midlands at the British Colleges National Championships held at Loughborough University. The Basketball Tournament was actually played at the Wildcats Arena in Nottingham with eight teams competing in two pools of four playing games of 10 minutes stopping clock. In their first Pool game Moulton beat Sutton Coldfield in overtime. They then went on to beat, Cheadle and Tyne College to win their pool. This meant a semi final game against Filton College from Bristol who were last year's runners up. Moulton dominated the semi final with some tenacious defence but they found scoring difficult, consequently the game was still tight until penetrative drives from skipper Jermayne Laing and fellow guard Jonny Yates gave Moulton the initiative. They ran out winners by 23-19 to set up a final clash with Sutton Coldfield who had beaten reigning champions Hackney in the other semi final. Having played aggressive pressing defence for the whole of the tournament Moulton Coach Mark Dunning elected to run a more passive zone defence in the final. This tactic threw the Sutton Coldfield players who struggled to score but Moulton also found it difficult to execute their offence. Going into the last minute of the shortened game Moulton were leading by just 1 point when 6'8” Dan Shaw stepped out to the perimeter and coolly drained a three point shot. The Sutton Coldfield Coach took a time out but his team's next offence was stopped because Moulton had cleverly switched to a man to man defence. On the next possession Laing was fouled and made one of two free throws to give his team a 18 -13 win and the college's second national title. It was a good team performance with Moulton's senior students Jake Wyatt, Jonny Yates, Jermayne Laing, Dan Shaw and Leon Henry showing how much they had learnt and improved by spending two years at a Basketball Academy.
