Construction companies pledge to develop closer educational links

On the 9th July, a dedicated Careers in Construction evening was held at Moulton College. Co-hosted by Moulton College and Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership, in conjunction with CITB and the county’s construction employers, the event gave Northamptonshire’s young people fresh insight into the many great career, training and apprenticeship opportunities that are available right on their doorstep in the construction sector. Students were also given the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at key trades in workshops managed by course leaders from Moulton College.

Careers in Construction was backed by industry representatives working in a variety of roles at Lagan Homes, Galliford Try, David Wilson Homes, ITS Interiors, Persimmon Homes, Jeakins Weir, Redrow Homes and Watson & Cox Homes, all pledging their support for NEP’s drive to encourage employers to open their doors to schools, establish closer links with schools and colleges and take on apprentices and graduate trainees.

Northamptonshire has one of the fastest growing UK populations and needs to build 37,000 new houses by 2021. For the county’s young people, this means there has never been a better time to train for a career in construction locally.
