Disability sport event comes to Moulton College

On 25 October 2015 six Paralympic sports will be coming together for a host of demonstrations, information and ‘have a go’ sessions at Moulton College. The British Equestrian Federation will be hosting the event which welcomes guests to discover how to get started in disability sport and a taste of the opportunities available.

Hoof, the British Equestrian Federation’s participation programme, will be hosting a range of activities on the day include para-rowing, para-sailing, wheelchair basketball, archery, para-cycling and para-equestrian dressage, with advice and help for those looking to take their first steps into disability sports.

Special guest, London 2012 Paralympic gold medallist, Sophie Wells MBE will be on hand for coaching guidance and advice on getting involved in para-equestrian dressage during the live demonstrations and at the para-dressage stand, where  Hoof, the British Equestrian Federation’s participation programme mechanical horse will be giving free taster sessions throughout the day. Sophie comments, “Lots of people will see disability sports but not know how they can get involved, that is the biggest hurdle, there are lots of sports out there and this gives people the opportunity to try different sports”.

Demonstrations in the main equine arena will give people the chance to see first-hand para-equestrian dressage as participants currently involved with Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and British Dressage showcase the sport. Long-time member and volunteer of Scropton RDA in Derbyshire Matthew Dalley hopes his demonstration ride will “inspire someone to get involved in sport and improve their life through it” having seen the impact horse riding has had on his own life.

Matthew enthuses; “I am really excited to be a part of the event. I want to show what can be achieved even when you have a lot of challenges to overcome.”

Admission to this interactive day packed with information and detail about disability sport is absolutely free. More information about the day can be found on the BEF website. You can sign up for free tickets at this link.
