Uruguay rugby team train at Moulton College

Moulton College has welcomed the Uruguay national rugby team as it acts as a Team Base during the Rugby World Cup.

A squad of 31 players and 18 staff arrived at the Northampton-based College ahead of their third pool match against Fiji on 6 October at MK Stadium. The team will be making use of the rugby pitch, swimming pool, sports therapy centre, cryotherapy chamber and free weights gym during their nine days at Moulton.

The rugby pitches at Moulton College have undergone intense preparation for the Uruguayan team through extensive fertilisation and scarification with overseeding taking place in May with ten bags of seed. They have also been top dressed with 116 tonnes of sand and mowed twice a week, ensuring they meet England Rugby’s stringent requirements.

Stephen Davies, Principal at Moulton College, said, “The team at Moulton College has worked tirelessly for the last 18 months to ensure the facilities are in excellent condition for Uruguay’s arrival. We’re proud and excited to have the Uruguayan team here during the Rugby World Cup and hope they enjoy the facilities and their time at Moulton College.”

Santiago Slinger, Uruguay Team Manager, said, “We are really impressed by the facilities at Moulton College, particularly the rugby pitch. The team are looking forward to making the most of their time here and preparing for the match against Fiji next week.”

Moulton College offers world-class facilities, including a cryotherapy chamber, with many facilities used by local and national professional and amateur sporting teams. The College has trained many successful rugby and sports players, also allowing the local community to train through its sports academies, encouraging clubs to book to use its facilities. Anyone wishing to know more about its sports provision and see the facilities themselves is encouraged to visit the College during one of its regular Open Events; information can be found on our Open Events pages.
