Pre-Season begins for the Cricket Academy

On Tuesday 23rd August Moulton College Cricket Academy first year students visited the Northamptonshire County Cricket Ground for their first coaching session of the year. On arrival to the ground the students were very quiet and probably quite nervous about being surrounded by new people, whilst having the exciting opportunity to impress the Northants County coaches.

After a brief talk, tour and introduction to the ground the students were able to put on their pads and show their skills. A number of batting, bowling and competitive drills were completed during the afternoon. As the day progressed students showed a willing attitude and determination to beat each other in the mini skill based competitions.

Whilst at the ground, the County’s second team were playing in a friendly game against Scotland and there were also a number of first team players who were successful in Northants’ win in the T20 Blast at the weekend. Seeing a number of professional players at the ground was a highlight for the students and gave them an insight to what they will experience when the term starts. On a weekly basis the Academy students will train alongside the Northants first team and have the opportunity to use their fantastic facilities and equipment.

Overall, a fun and engaging day for the new students who we wish the very best with the year ahead, where they will be aiming to emulate the success of the Academy who narrowly lost in the final of the National Cup this year.
