On Tuesday 27th June a team of Construction Trade students travelled to Leicester College to take part in this year’s regional Skillbuild competition. Each discipline requires competitors to read and interpret drawings and carry out a practical exercise in no more than six hours. Competitors are selected from some of the best construction students in the country and the work that they are required to do is both difficult and demanding.
Moulton College went on to achieve excellent all-round success with Brickwork student Alex Forward gaining a 2nd place in the Seniors category and Carpentry student William Yates gaining a 3rd place in the New Entrants category.
In Cabinet Making all three competitors were successful. Furniture Studies students James Boyes and Samuel Matthews were place 1st and 2nd respectively in the Senior category and Benjamin Mathias gained a 1st place in the New Entrant category. From the quality of work produced, the Furniture Studies course team are confident that both James and Samuel will make it to the National Competition, which takes place as part of the SkillShow held at the NEC in November.
All competitors agreed that the experience was thoroughly enjoyable, if a little exhausting. Construction lecturers are proud of the students achievements and wish them every success for the future.
