We love tracking our students’ successes and there’ve been several of those on the running front lately.
Bill Boyd, lead coach for the college’s Athletics Academy, reports that Max Browne placed 6th in the UK in his age group for the 60m sprint, covering the distance in just 6.86 seconds at London’s indoor Lee Valley Stadium on 13 January. Max has now had a special invitation to compete at the Senior British Indoor Championships, which will also be the World Championship trials, at Birmingham Arena in February: his biggest competition so far.
Muss-Ab Hassan scored a silver medal at the Northants County Cross Country Championships at Wicksteed Park early in January, confirming a place to compete for the county in the Inter-County British Cross Country Championships in March. Ethan Kent-Whittaker, who came 10th, will be a reserve.
Later in January our students competed in the Northants Schools Cross Country where we had two runners – Muss-Ab Hassan and Jack Benstead - selected to represent Northamptonshire at Ipswich for the Anglian Trophy, in early February. Depending on how they do there, they could be selected to represent Northants at the National English Schools Cross Country Championships to be held in Leeds in March. Well done, all, and watch this space!
