Football Academy student’s career is kicking off

First year football academy student, Caleb Chukwuemeka has been offered a two-year scholarship contract with Northampton Town FC.

Caleb, who is studying a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness, was this month invited to attend a trial at Northampton Town FC. This was due to last a period of six weeks. After just one week of training, the coaches quickly saw the potential in Caleb and signed him onto the full-time apprenticeship programme.

This programme, available for 16-18 year olds, combines elite quality coaching and formal education qualifications within the sports industry. This opportunity means that Caleb could potentially earn himself a professional contract if he continues to develop and play to a high standard.

He said: ‘I can’t believe it. I’ve been playing football since I was eight years old, and it’s always been my dream to play at a professional level – and that dream is now in sight! I’m a huge supporter of Northampton Town FC and I can’t wait to get stuck into this programme and further develop my skills on the pitch.’

Caleb is no stranger to the club, having played with them before as part of the U9s and U14s part-time training programmes. However this opportunity to get involved with the full-time programme, means that he’s now even closer to making it as a professional footballer.

Lee Adams, Head of the Football Academy at Moulton College said: ‘Caleb has been an outstanding player for us, and since joining Moulton in September 2018 he’s strengthened on the field both physically and mentally. We’re all immensely proud of his achievement, and we’re excited to watch him continue to grow and develop with Northampton Town FC.’
