The Moulton College Junior Open took a place at Northamptonshire County Golf Club this week and Matthew Myers took the overall title with a gross score of 70. The Moulton Open has been played twice before in 2010 and 2011 with former Moulton College student Lauren Taylor dominating the field on both occasions.
In the 2013 competition, Myers was first out and led the field from the front, with Moulton College Golf Academy student Martin Conley coming second in the boys competition. In the girls competition, Ellie Darnell from Wellingborough Golf Club took the title ahead of Millie Billson.
The event was also the climax of the county Order of Merit, organised by Northamptonshire Golf, where junior players from Northamptonshire have been playing all summer long at Junior Opens across the County and the top 10 gross and net scorers were also invited to play along today.
In that competition, sponsored by Titleist Footjoy and Moulton College, again Ellie and Matthew took the respective titles. Matthew, who is 16 and studying for his A Levels, is the younger brother of the Assistant Professional at Northamptonshire County, Adam Myers. Ellie is currently in the England Under 16 squad.
Moulton Academy student Martin Conley came in second place again, winning himself a pair of Footjoy golf shoes. The prizes were presented by Northants County Club Captain, David Goodrham.
The competition will run again next year and the Golf Academy students will be looking to try to claim to the title back for the College!
