Northampton Saints Elite Insurance Sevens Winners
Moulton academy took two teams down to the Northampton Saints Elite sevens completion held at Olney RFC. With some tough local teams in both draws it was going to be a tough to get out of the pools. However the A squad did just that finishing second and would have to play the winners of the 2nd pool in the semi. The B squad did not mage to get out of the pool but did win their playoff which meaning that they finished a credible 5th.
The A squad then would face a well drilled Hills Road team who had already beaten them in the early rounds. However Moulton A proved their metal and won the final in a hard physical contest to take the title.
Surrey Schools Sevens
Moulton travelled down to the Richmond Athletic Ground for the Surrey Schools Sevens competition. The standard of the opposition would be a real test for the team especially being drawn in the same group as Millfield who have won the competition several times. In particularly good weather Moulton opened their account with a good win but unfortunately lost to Millfield in the next game. This meant that it was important to win the final game in the round to progress.
After a slow start the team did just this and progressed to the knock out stages and a chance of a ¼ final. To gain this Moulton would have to overcome Epsom College. The game was very close and with the teams drawing at the end extra time with a golden point was needed. Fortunately Moulton managed the golden point and headed into the ¼ final.
The ¼ final was against Beechen Cliff School and this proved to be a game to far for the Moulton team being soundly beaten by an excellent and accurate Beechen Cliff. Despite losing the team can be justly proud of their efforts making the final 8 in one of the premier sevens competitions on the circuit.
Moulton College win the Cambridge Northampton Saints Elite Insurance Sevens
Moulton took two teams down to Cambridge RFC to play in the Saints Elite Insurance Sevens. With a number of local teams involved it was going to be a tiring and testing day for both teams. Fortunately the weather was not as bad as predicted and despite the pitches being heavy they held well. Moulton 1st team went through the pool stages unscathed and progressed to the semi-finals. The second team struggled in the pool stages and did not progress.
Moulton 1st seven made it through the semi and faced Ipswich school in the final. In a competitive game it was Ipswich who scored first but Moulton kicked into gear and won the final 26-5. A good start to the teams sevens campaign.
