Apprenticeships - Agriculture - Mixed FarmingThis framework is available as an Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship. On completion of your Initial Training Period, attendance at college will be on a day release basis. The qualification is gained through a combination of work based assessments and practical training and exams completed at college. The apprenticeship will focus on the skills required to be a competent farm hand. The average duration of the apprenticeship is two years. The advanced apprenticeship will focus on the specialised skills required in mixed farming. The average duration of the advanced apprenticeship is 30 months. In both cases, the apprenticeship must last for at least two growing seasons (e.g. two harvests, two drillings or two lambings etc). Special FeaturesThe College offers first class practical facilities currently farming 655.83ha. A variety of crops are grown, livestock enterprises include a 350 cow dairy herd and a 1000 ewe flock. Both apprenticeships include valuable additional qualifications such as Pesticide applications, All Terrain Vehicle handling, Telescopic Forklift, Safe use of Sheep Dips, Safe use of Medicines, Emergency First Aid and Safe Manual Handling.
