Practical Animal Care Skills is a practical based course designed for adults who already work, or wish to work, in the animal industry. It is a stepping stone towards a career in roles such as animal care assistants, zoo keepers, animal technicians or boarding establishment assistants.

You will develop practical skills that will support you securing work in the animal care industry or progressing on to further study.
This is a part-time course where you will spend one day per week in college at our Moulton campus. The six hours of taught lessons will consist of practical sessions (3.75 hours), theory lessons (1.25 hours) and tutorials (1 hour).
In addition to the face to face teaching you will also be expected to completed some guided self-study online.
Assessment will take the form of practical portfolios, professional discussions and verbal questioning.
After successful completion of the course you can either progress in to employment in the animal sector, on to an animal related apprenticeship or on to further study such as the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Animal Management at Moulton College.
To complete this course you will need to evidence industry relevant work experience, either prior to starting the course or during the course. It is preferable to have English at Level 2 (GCSE) or above however this is not essential.
We are working in partnership with employers in industry to make this qualification centred around the knowledge, skills and behaviours that they are looking for within their workforce. English and maths support can be provided alongside the course if required.
