Level 3 Core Maths helps to develop your mathematical skills and thinking and supports a range of courses and vocational qualifications.

The primary focus of this course is on using and applying maths and statistics to address problems and real-life scenarios, drawn from study, work and life, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving. You will learn about maths for personal finance (including personal loans and tax), fermi estimation, data and critical analysis and much more.

This course is free of charge.

You will have two taught sessions per week with an experienced tutor. You will also need to complete some self-study on tutor-set work or online resources.

This qualification is assessed by two final exams. Provisional exam dates are Monday 17 May 2021 and Tuesday 25 May 2021 (subject to confirmation).

Core maths will raise your skill levels in using and applying maths, whatever further study, training or employment you progress to.

Core maths is very attractive to universities. You can earn up to 20 UCAS points for this qualification. Furthermore, as part of an application for university, you’ll need to prepare a personal statement. Core maths is an excellent qualification to explain how you are developing your quantitative and problem-solving skills, so that you are better able to make sense of the information you will be presented with on a degree course. This is particularly relevant if you are applying for a course that will involve a lot of quantitative data analysis, such as psychology, business-related courses, sports and social sciences, and natural science courses that do not require AS/A Level Mathematics.

You must be aged between 16 and 18 years old and already have a grade 6 or above in GCSE maths.

Before courses begin you will complete a detailed assessment to establish your current maths knowledge and skills. This will enable us to give you guidance on which course and level is most appropriate for you.

We are nearing the end of week two and it's great to see so many students getting stuck into their courses but that…
