The course is designed for learners who have a learning difficulty and a passion for animals. It will give you an opportunity to gain a qualification in employability skills which can help with future employment aspirations.

You will learn about workplace safety and emergency procedures. You will be able Identify hazards in familiar settings. Working as part of a group is very important. You will learn all about small animals, how to handle them, cleaning their enclosures and feeding them. You will work in the stables with the horses, mucking out, leading and feeding them.

If you are a UK / EU or AEEU resident, the cost of this course is £1,300. However:

  • If you are a UK/EU or AEEU resident and meet certain criteria in terms of benefits, income or previous qualifications or
  • You are aged between 19-24 (inclusive) and have a current Education Health Plan

You may qualify for a fee remission, reducing the amount you have to pay. Please contact us for more information.

Please note that you will also need to purchase Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for the day.

The course is one day a week. You will work with small animals for half the day and with the horses the other half. The hours will be 9.00 – 12.15 & 1.15 – 4.30. Lessons will be both practical and theory based.

The work you undertake within lessons will be assessed by lecturers at the time and you will be given verbal and written feedback. You will be assessed both practically and in theory lessons and build up a portfolio of work. We have specialist workshops equipped with tools and resources.

This course can lead onto the Part Time Certificate Entry Level 3 Employability Skills (Horse Care & Animal Care).

No formal qualifications are required, but you will need to attend an interview to identify your interests and support needs.

You will be learning in a fantastic and safe environment with other students that have a learning difficulty. You will have help and guidance from both the lecturer and from Learning Support Assistants that are all very experienced.
