These Furniture Making courses are designed for individuals wishing to make basic items of furniture. 

Learners will undertake a number of small tasks/projects that will focus on developing and improving traditional hand skills. 

Courses will consist of some or all of the following depending on the learners own experience and ability:

  • Practical demonstrations, including safe use of hand, powered hand and machine tools and equipment 
  • Delivery of associated workshop theory.
  • Constructing a range of basic woodworking joints.
  • Making small items of furniture using hand, powered hand and machine tools and equipment.
  • Seeing small projects (learners choice to be negotiated with tutor) through from start to finish. 

There is no qualification attached to this course. Learners will receive a college certificate once completed.

Possible Progression route: 

  • Summer Term 8 week interest Only Furniture Making for Beginners and Improvers.
  • Nationally recognised qualifications in Furniture Making and Wood Machining at level 2 and 3.
