Students from Daventry University Technical College (DUTC) will start the New Year in a brand new state-of-the-art building, which opens on Monday 13 January.
Moulton College as the lead sponsor along with the University of Northampton, Northampton County Council and Daventry District Council have overseen the entire project from inception through to opening. Stephen Davies, Principal of Moulton College says “I am delighted to see the vision finally being realised. This state of the art education facility will provide high quality teaching and learning and give the best possible opportunities for young people aged 14 to 19, to develop the blend of necessary work related technical skills supported by English, maths and ICT to prepare them for the workplace.”
The new building, constructed to high environmental standards, offers first class facilities designed to provide an engaging, interesting and project-driven curriculum.
The UTC offers 14 to 19-year-olds an innovative mix of academic studies, technical learning, employer-led design projects and work placements based around specialisms in the areas of engineering, modern methods of construction or environmental sustainability. Students in Years 10 and 11 study up to nine GCSEs alongside a Level 2 technical qualification in either engineering or modern methods of construction. Students in Years 12 and 13 study a Level 3 technical qualification in either engineering or modern methods of construction, as well as a range of A/AS Level subjects.
David Edmondson, Principal of Daventry UTC, said: “I am looking forward to welcoming the students to their fantastic new College. The building is outstanding and is testament to the hard work and dedication from all involved in making this a reality. The new building combined with the superb array of specialist equipment, exciting and integrated curriculum and wonderful staff, will provide a tremendous learning environment for current and future students. I would like to extend an invitation to all future prospective students and their families to visit the UTC on our open day on Saturday 25 January and hopefully join us in this innovative learning journey.”
