Approaching the end of a busy spring term, it’s time to reflect on the progress of students on both the Hockey and Cricket Academy. This year students have had access to 8 hours of coaching per week, with the Hockey Academy training on the water based astroturf and the Cricket Academy training at the home of the National T20 Champions, Northamptonshire CCC. Alongside this all students have 1 hour of strength and conditioning per week, with an option for further time if requested.
It is important to realise that both academies look to champion personal, social and academic development, with 70% of students going on to university, This April both the male and female hockey teams will be travelling down to Bath University to take part in the national finals to represent the East Midlands, demonstrating the enrichment value Moulton offers student development. Coupled with this, all of the students play for local teams and have had significant experience coaching hockey voluntarily throughout their time at college.
The Hockey Academy would also like to wish Northampton Saints, Wellingborough, Kettering, Daventry, Long Buckby, Market Harborough, Corby, Wotton Wanderers and Oundle Hockey Clubs continued good luck for the final few games of a long and demanding season.
The Cricket Academy continues to go from strength to strength with 14 students making up the first year and second years. Second year students Alex Iceton, Jamie Cameron and Jake Bindley have all been offered places at university. Along with all sport students the Cricket Academy were given the opportunity to participate in Sports Day at Lee Valley indoor athletics track, as well as working with local children from Moulton Primary School.
The Cricket Academy will continue their strong links with Northants, training at the County Ground twice a week under the tutelage of coach Andy O’Connor. This link has really developed with the help of Recreational Cricket Manager Derek Styman, who has given 3 first year students a work experience placement, giving them real life experience of the workings of professional club.
