Last week Moulton College’s SNVSA was delighted to welcome a group of visitors from Bungoma, East Africa.
The visit had been arranged through the local church and organised by Peter Coles, the landlord for the Silverstone site.
The visitors were given a warm welcome and a full tour of the College which gave them an opportunity to talk with individual students and to share experiences from both colleges.
They then gave a fascinating talk telling students about the conditions and problems they faced in Bungoma. The college has 1029 students and manages on 3 PC’s and 10 teachers. All education is compulsory from 6 years of age and students have to take their own water to drink, wash and to use for cooking (no on site catering facilities there). It would not be unusual for student to walk over 8 miles daily to get to school!
Before leaving they kindly said a short prayer for the students and staff. It was certainly an insight for the SNVSA students and staff to find out just how difficult it can be to gain a worthwhile education in countries that are unable to provide the facilities that are available here.
