Students have been celebrating the completion of the Six Book Challenge, a national reading initiative from the Reading Agency. Their success was highlighted in a ceremony last week.
Over 130 students took part in the challenge which tasks participants with reading at least six books and writing reviews of each in a diary. Principal Stephen Davies presented all the students who completed the challenge with a certificate, goody bag and free book at the presentation ceremony.
Bali Rai, award winning author of Young Adult fiction, opened the celebrations with an inspirational talk about the importance of reading. He said “Aside from getting a good education, there is absolutely nothing more important than reading”. He encouraged everyone to build on their Six Book success by reading as often as possible.
Students, parents and teachers also attended the presentation ceremony. As well as certificates there were prizes for ‘best diary’ and ‘most enthusiastic reader’. The Learning Resources team also ran a creative writing competition and one of the winners, Horticulture student Jamie Pike, is pictured receiving his prize from Bali Rai.
Moulton College will achieve a Silver Award for its participation in the Challenge this year. For more information and access to the online library catalogue, please visit the Learning Resource Centre pages.
