Recent studies of Moulton College graduates show that 94% have successfully found employment or have continued onto further studies.
A survey of nearly 1,200 graduates performed last year demonstrates the added value the curriculum at Moulton College gives our students,’ says Jacky Matthews, Director of Curriculum.
The ethos at Moulton College is one of opportunity, encouraging students to reach their potential and supporting them in their journey and this is highlighted by the recent study.
Jacky recognises the impact that the practical sessions have on the learners’ outcomes and the difference this can make when being interviewed by potential employers or being interviewed for a higher level course.
‘The College is committed to developing practical and employability skills’ says Jacky, and adds ‘This can be demonstrated by their achievements in competitions like Skillbuild, where most recently Thomas Gibbs won the Gold Medal.’
Thomas spent three years honing his craft on Furniture Studies courses, which culminated in reaching the Skillbuild regional, and then national finals. ‘I really enjoyed the course at Moulton,’ he said. ‘The first year is all about hand tools and how to cut wood properly, which is really interesting and gets to the heart of the subject, and then as we went on we started designing and making bigger and better things. The tutors know their stuff and are very helpful if you have any problems.’
Bruce Marsh, Furniture Studies lecturer at Moulton College said: ‘The whole team is really proud of Thomas and his amazing achievements. He was a fantastic student with us for three years who really developed and progressed well and we are so proud that he has gone on to win the gold medal in the national finals.’
Thomas is just one of the students who contributed to this very exciting statistic; he found employment immediately on graduating with Wrexham based company Silverline, who specialise in bespoke furniture for yachts, aircrafts and private residencies.
