This week, the Food and Drink Innovation Centre held its first manufacturers’ forum.
Guests from reputable national companies joined together to gain an insight into new developments and opportunities within the manufacturing sector and explore what the centre has to offer. Valuable discussions took place regarding new partnerships with the college’s exciting new food and drink provision.
The forum is a group of technical representatives of manufacturers and suppliers with a common interest in the food and drink industry. Rachel Roy, Lecturer at the Food and Drink Innovation Centre said: ‘Hosting the event at our new centre was an honour and an opportunity for us to establish valuable contacts from the industry. These links will provide additional opportunities for students in terms of work placements, and ultimately potential employment’.
The Centre also welcomed a representative from Weetabix, who gave a talk to students about work experience and apprenticeships in the food and drink sector. Phoebe Millican, an apprentice herself, spoke of her experience working at Weetabix and the future opportunities she’ll be able to take advantage of. Phoebe also briefly touched on the financial rewards of completing her apprenticeship – the potential to be able to go straight into a £35k job.
