Moulton College represented the East Midlands in three sports at the British Colleges Sport National Championships at Bath University from 22nd -24th March. Qualification for this annual event is by virtue of winning the BCS East Midlands Championships.
The weather throughout the three day event was atrocious, with wind, rain, snow and freezing temperatures throughout the weekend. However, this did not deter Moulton’s men’s rugby team as they sailed through their qualification group with three victories over colleges from Sussex, Hartlepool and Truro. This led to a close semi-final with Worcester 6th Form College where Moulton ran out 5-0 winners, whilst old adversaries Myerscough College awaited them in the final. Myerscough were hoping for Worcester to triumph as they wished to avoid Moulton. Their fears were justified as Moulton were far too strong in the final and ran out easy winners 17-0 to become BCS National Men’s Rugby 10s Champions.
The women’s cross country team and the and hockey team did not fair quite so well but put up a creditable performance
Director of Sport Lee Howarth said, “the terrible weather did play a part in the results but the teamx all bonded well together and the Men’s Rugby Academy produced some fantastic performances to win a gruelling event. All the students represented the college in an exceptional manner, both on and off the pitch, and I am very proud of every one of them. We look forward to defending our title next year.”
