Football Academy latest….
The 2012-13 season was a great success for the Moulton College Football Academy. The first team missed out on the Division Conference title by just 1 point. The other male and female teams held their own, finishing mid-table in their leagues.
The Academy now looks forward to the new season. With over 50 new players taking their place on the course, we hope to see another strong season. An increase in the number of girls on the course will see the squad strengthen. Many of the new girls are following in Hannah Clancy’s footsteps by also playing for the Mk Dons. They are likely to bring some additional talent and support the team to challenge for the league.
Many important players have left this year to move on to university. One of the key players that will be missed is Kieran Johnson, who scored almost 20 goals last season. However, the Academy head coach, Marcus Ebdon, has reported that, ‘many new recruits for the male squad have already shown some great potential in their trials. Some of them have had previous spells at Aston Villa, Norwich and also Northampton Town Youth. In addition, second year students will be there to support their new team mates. Often we see these players mature and strengthen over the two year course.’
This year the college is running a pre-season for the academy teams. Over this two week period, in addition to meeting the other players and staff at the college, Academy members a have the opportunity to increase fitness, have a health screening and receive football training.
