Smoke and Mirrors – through the looking glass
Designer: Susan Mallett
College: Moulton College
This design portrays feelings of self-reflection and change. The mirrors reflect what is there already but shield what lies ahead. After reflection, the chamomile path invites the viewer to make the journey of change, not knowing where it leads. The starting point can be from either end of the path. Using mostly the same plants but different cultivars on opposite sides illustrates transition, with the ‘river’ of lavender symbolising life’s journey. The sense of smell is stimulated by herbs to evoke memories. Topiary, in progressive heights, leads the eye to the smoke bush representing the smokescreen we use to hide our feelings.
