Moulton College is to represent the East Midlands in a variety of sports this month at the British Colleges Sport National Championships at Bath University from 22nd -24th March. Qualification for this annual event is by virtue of winning the BCS East Midlands Championships which happened in three different sports during the current academic year.
Two of Moulton’s female cross-country team were the first to qualify at the November Regional Championships in Sheffield with Kayli Welford winning to become East Midlands Champion while Jessica Faulkner came in fourth. Moulton’s Men’s Rugby Academy will be flying the flag for the East Midlands after winning the BCS Regional 10s Tournament in Nottingham in January this year with the Female Hockey Academy also representing the East Midlands as they finished as champions at the same event.
Director of Sport Lee Howarth said, “this is a great event for the students to participate in as it is effectively a mini-Olympics, with 51 separate events and over 2,000 athletes taking part. The opening and closing ceremonies are quite spectacular and we will be going all out to repeat our 2008 Men’s Basketball result where they became National Champions”.
Nine regions will be represented by a wide variety of colleges who will compete for points to determine which region finishes on top overall and is awarded the prestigious Wilkinson Sword. In 2012 the East Midlands finished 6th behind the South West who came out top after several years of South East domination.
