Working at full throttle

Level 2 Diploma in Exercise, Health and Fitness Instructing student Jamie Perrin is not only a hard working student who is a talented instructor. He is also a talented athlete who competes at an extremely high level in his chosen sporting activity.

Jamie currently races in the BSB (British Superbike Rounds) in the 600 support class which is just below the main championship. This involves racing motorbikes in speeds in excess of 150mph on the various road racing circuits across the UK. This would be similar to playing football in the Championship, so a very high standard of racing.

This year Jamie will be racing for his new team Go-Racing Developments and is currently in the preparation stages to be ready for the new season that begins in April. As he has discovered on his course an important aspect of training is pre-season and prior preparation, both physically and mentally.

For Jamie’s preparation he needs to get to know his new teammates and equipment for the upcoming season, so are part of this he will be jetting off to Spain for 5 days of testing his Yamaha R6 bike. However, this is no holiday in the sun and will require a lot of hard work.

The testing involves visiting 2 circuits in Spain starting at the Aragon for 2 days of riding and then the Circuit Alcarras for a further 3 days. This testing will allow Jamie and the team to ensure the bike is set up correctly and check the suspension and riding position to name but a few.

It will also allow him to get back to the demands of racing a high powered machine, as he has only had a few sessions on his motocross bike since his last season ended in October 2012.

Jamie will be hoping to utilise the knowledge and skills he has learned so far from his course to ensure he is ready for the forthcoming season. This will help him to achieve his personal aim to finish all the BSB rounds in a point scoring positions. Whilst his aim at the college is to successfully complete his course and then progress onto the Level 3 Personal Training course in September.

So, good luck Jamie in your testing and the forthcoming season as well as on the course, from all your colleagues and the sports staff at Moulton.
