Moulton College Equine students win at the English Vaulting Championships

On 26th October the Moulton College Vaulting Academy travelled to the  Unicorn Trust Equestrian Centre in Bucks for the English Vaulting Championships. The team, made up of Further Education and Higher Education students, comprised Merryn Lynes, Sarah East (Higher Education), and  Corinne Bottley, Tara Crick, Katie Betts, Emily Curtis, Ellie Martin and Beth Rice (Further Education).

The team entered three classes, Pre-Novice Compulsories, Walk Pairs and Fancy Dress Fun Freestyle. The Pre-Novice Team performed their canter compulsories and received the highest score from the judges. Canter Compulsories are where each member of the team gets on in canter one at a time, and then perform their basic seat, bench and leg changes.

The students' outstanding result came in the Pre-Novice team in the ‘Freestyle section’ which saw them coming first out of 6 teams overall, making them the English Vaulting Pre-Novice Champions, an outstanding result for a team that has only been training as part of the Vaulting Academy for just over a year.

Later in the day the team performed in the pairs walk free style, gaining sixth and seventh places. The final class of the day was the Fun Freestyle to the theme of Poker Face by Lady Gaga. The team improved on their score from the Welsh Championship earlier this year by coming second.

Vaulting Academy student Corrine Bottley said, ‘Overall the day was an amazing success, we exceeded our wildest dreams with the whole team leaving with rosettes and a trophy.’

Elizabeth Cuff,  Academies course Manager said, ‘The students have worked incredibly hard in training sessions and their hard work has paid off with an outstanding result. The team are a credit to the college.’
