Sand Based

Artificial Sports Pitches and Courts

We have three full-sized artificial turf sports pitches at Moulton. Our floodlit, third generation rubber crumb pitch – specifically designed for football and rugby – was the first of its kind to be developed in the county, and is sanctioned by the Football Association for tournament match play. The 65x97 metre pitch can be set out as two 7-a-side or four 5-a-side pitches and is used by Northampton Saints, small-sided football leagues, several football clubs, and by the FA for coaching and various college academic programmes.

Moulton also has a floodlit, full-size sand pitch for football and hockey, which can be divided and used for training and matches by multiple teams from both sports. There’s also a floodlit, water-based hockey pitch at our Pitsford Centre, which has a carpet surface. It uses water cannons to wet the pitch prior to playing, which reduces ball friction and enhances speed. It’s used by a number of local and regional teams, as well as England Hockey for training and development.

In addition, we have 6 floodlit all-weather courts, which can be set up for tennis, netball and football, and are used by local clubs for training and matches, as well as community organisations. Plus, during the summer months staff, students and the public can play tennis on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The facilities are of a very high standard and the staff make us feel very welcome and fully understand the requirements of elite athletes and programmes.
