Sports Massage Therapy students at Moulton College recently volunteered at the Dormouse Challenge, an endurance running event organised by The Big Bear Events at Salcey Forest.
The event involved athletes of all levels being challenged to run challenged to run as many laps as possible of the 3.5-mile off-road loop within a 6-hour time limit. Total distances traveled could range from 3.5 miles to over 50 miles! Some participants attempted the marathon distance which involved running seven laps of the tough track.
Students studying Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy at Moulton College were on hand in the freezing temperatures, to offer free sports massage treatments, stretching and advice to runners, to aid recovery and reduce fatigue after completing the challenging distances.
Charlotte Burton, Sports Massage Therapy Course Manager, coordinated the service with the students and is proud of their efforts in the tough conditions.
Despite freezing temperatures, the students performed excellent and beneficial treatments and have been invited back to do more events in the future!”
Charlotte continued: "This hands-on experience is invaluable for students, giving them the opportunity to apply classroom learning in real life events. Working with athletes not only builds their confidence but also exercises practical skills which are essential for the sector."
