Horse Management students have access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the College. They will have access to all of the college horses, riding once a week and will regularly be on the professional Equine yard working with other students, commercial staff and lecturers.

The Equine centre comprises of a 60m x 40m indoor riding arena, Large outdoor arena, cross country paddock and off road hacking around the extensive estate. Students have the opportunity to bring their horse with them for the extent of their course or for the week while they are on commercial experience.

During their course students will undertake commercial experience and work experience developing their skills to an industry standard. Students will be guided by our specialist staff in developing theory knowledge and practical skills in key areas of the equine industry. Students will get the opportunity to go on trips and have expert guest speakers come and give and insight into the Industry.

Guided by our expert lecturers you will advance your knowledge of horse management and care. Through theoretical and practical learning you will develop your understanding of preparing competition horses, along with basic horse biology and physiology. Additionally you will find out more about correct and proper horse handling, feeding and watering.

This is a full time course taking place on three full days per week. There will be a mix of practical and theoretical work which are split into two hour lessons. You will have a half an hour break and hour lunch. An example timetable can be viewed here.

Vocational and professional qualifications are taught through college based theory and practical lessons with further learning and understanding developed via directed self-study. Assessment consists of internally set coursework and assignments which are a mixture of theory and practical assessment.

Commonly students progress from the Level 2 qualification onto the Level 3 Diploma on completion of their course where they develop their knowledge and understanding further. Alternatively students may wish to move into an apprenticeship after the 1 year qualification.

Four GCSEs at grade 2-3 (D-E) or a Level 1 Diploma in a related subject.

Please note that for the welfare of our horses there is a 13 stone weight limit for riding.
