Moulton College Cricket Academy celebrates ten-year partnership with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club

Friday 3 July 2020

Moulton College and Northamptonshire County Cricket are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their successful partnership, providing Moulton College Cricketers a full-time education within world-class sports facilities alongside top-level coaching at the County Ground.

The partnership, which started in September 2010, supports under 19s to gain valued qualifications, whilst training in the professional environment and with coaches at the County Ground. Cricket Academy players are also able to compete at national level in the Association of Colleges (AoC) fixtures during the academic year.

Students are supported by highly qualified coaches both at the College and the Club.

Derek Styman, Cricket Development Manager at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club said:

"It's great to reach the ten year anniversary of our relationship and I'm excited about the future opportunities for local youngsters from the Cricketing Community. The Academy is now an established part of our Talent identification programme and I look forward to further embedding it so we move towards our aim of having more Northamptonshire youngsters representing the County."

Tom Brinkley, Associate Programme Coordinator (Sport) at Moulton College added:

“We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with such an established and professional club within Cricket. Over the years we have seen players not only obtain qualifications, which they can use to progress into employment but also have opportunities to join the professional game. The partnership gives our Cricket Academy students the coaching and support of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club at training and at fixtures.”

A key concern for young academy athletes is managing the challenges of achieving both their sporting and academic aims. The partnership with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club directly supports athletes with this balance, helping them to achieve their full potential in both areas.

Tom added:

We want to continue to offer facilities and coaching in an atmosphere that is conducive to the development of every person in our academy system in terms of self-discipline, good attitude and teamwork. We are providing academy students with the opportunity to develop their personal, social, educational and sporting skills with their welfare and enjoyment a priority in every decision we make.”
