Top Tips for Studying At Home

Wednesday 25 March 2020

At home there are a lot of distractions that can pull you off track when it comes to home study. Don’t worry – we have some top tips on how to keep focussed and achieve everything you want to from home! Get your environment right You are in a comfortable, low pressured environment which is fantastic for your wellbeing but can mean it is a little difficult to get into the right motivated mind-set of doing your best college work. Why not create your perfect study area? That might be at a desk, kitchen table, worktop or even floor space. Make sure you have everything you need to work effectively, pens, paper, and your tutor’s resources. Try and avoid areas you like to relax in and keep them special for your downtime. Structure It’s very easy to think “I’ll do it later” and later never arrives! So keep some structure to your day. This could be bullet pointing the things you would like to achieve that day or even putting together your own timetable. You will definitely get a sense of achievement when you can look back on your day and see what you’ve done. Sleep and Nutrition Just like when you are coming to College, getting a good night’s sleep and eating well will be a huge positive boost for your mind and body. With your mind being well-rested and getting all the nutrients you need you will perform better both in terms of focus and motivation. Planning your lunches and snacks can be a fun way of scheduling in breaks before returning to your work to crack on.

Get Social With apps such as House Party becoming more popular why not set up a mini group study session with your friends? This is a great way of keeping studying fun whilst still learning. You can keep each other on track but still have a sneaky chat and a laugh which will keep you positive. We also have fun content going out on the college’s social media channels @moultoncollege so make sure you are keeping your eyes on those too! Keep in touch Remember whilst we might not be with you physically we are still there to support you! We are using a range of platforms including Moodle and Google Classroom to share content and learning with you. We will also contact you if we don't hear from you in a while to make sure that you are okay! So remember to keep in touch with us however you like, whether that’s via our online platforms such as Moodle and Google Classroom or using your student email. You can also give our Student Services team a call. Together we can answer all of your questions and have a chat. We would love to hear from you.
