Leigh Jones, Head of School for Sport & Public Services

Tell us about your role as Head of School for Sport...

My role involves co-ordinating and managing a large team of staff including lecturers, course managers and sports coaches, to provide an outstanding curriculum offer for our sport students.

What’s your favourite bit about the job?

It sounds cheesy, but the best bit is when you see past students go onto be highly successful in the field you trained them for.

Outside of work, do you have a favourite sport/team?

Manchester United. I don't think I need to say any more!

Do you have any hobbies outside of College?

There literally isn't a sport that I don't enjoy playing or watching. Apart from spending time with the family and friends, this takes up all my spare time.

Tell us your favourite quote or moto that you live by…

"No Guts, No Glory..."

If you could star in a movie, which movie and who would you be?

I’d have to choose the Godfather Part II. I wouldn’t care which part it was as long as I got to see Robert De Niro and Al Pacino acting in their prime.

Do you have a favourite book?

The Count of Monte Cristo

What’s your favourite kind of music?

I like almost all types of music from Hip Hop, Rap, Pop, Classical and Soul, but my favourite music is probably Rock n Roll from the 50s and 60s.

What are you reading/listening to/watching at the moment?

I'm currently watching Power on Netflix.

Do you have a food heaven and food hell?

Food Heaven - Tournedos Rossini

Food Hell - Anything with Marmite on it. Yuk!

What advice would you give to a 16 year old you?

I would advise a 16 year old to be resilient and to be passionate about what they are interested in. So many students give up after the first hurdle; however the greatest accomplishments in life are only achieved after learning how to get up.
