The Land-Based sector is one of exciting constant development and change, with exciting things to come in the environmental and conservation sectors. If you are interested in the Land-Based curriculum love working outside in the Countryside then our Level 1 Diploma in Land-Based studies is the one for you.

The diploma includes modules on agriculture, countryside, horticulture and horticulture & forestry. You will get an understanding of all of these areas of the land-based industry and get to work with livestock and wildlife across our incredible estate.

Our land-based students get access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the college including over 440 hectares of arable and grazing farmland, extensive woodland and areas of natural habitat, all maintained by our land-based team. You will also become skilled in working on a variety of machinery and equipment through your hands-on, practical sessions.

Guided by our range of expert staff and guest lecturers you will get involved with all aspects of the estate and embed the knowledge you learn in the classroom through practical sessions. As part of your course you will complete work experience which will support your studies, allow you to apply your knowledge and expand your experience in other settings.

Guided by our expert lecturers you will learn about the basics of wildlife maintenance, conservation, woodlands and livestock husbandry. Through a mix of practical and theory-based learning you will be taught the essential skills required to manage an estate, including plant and boundary maintenance. Additionally you will learn about animal health and welfare.

This is a full time course taking place on three to four days per week from 9am - 4:30pm. There will be a mix of practical and theoretical work which are split into 1 hour - 2 hour lessons.

Vocational and professional qualifications are taught through college based theory and practical lessons with further learning and understanding developed via directed self-study. Assessment consists of internally set coursework and assignments, although some professional and vocational qualifications may require the achievement of externally set assessments.

After achieving a Level 1 Certificate, you can progress to Level 2 studies, or an apprenticeship. The variety of this course will enable you to specialise at Level 2 in any of our land-based subjects.

GCSEs at grade 1-2 (E-G) or equivalent or an Entry Level 3 Diploma in a related subject.
