SafeZone is our new safety app for students and staff at Moulton College.
We work hard to ensure that Moulton College is a safe environment for everyone. As part of this commitment we have introduced a new safety and services app called SafeZone. This app is widely used in universities across the country and provides a quick and secure way for students and staff to get help from our on-campus security team and first aiders. It can also be used to raise IT and Facilities concerns and notify students of any bus delays or college closures.
How does it work?
Students and staff download the SafeZone app from their usual app store and create an account. This then registers their device with the system which is overseen by our on-campus Security Team. The app does not track any individual but, if someone raises an alert or requests first aid assistance, the Security Team will be able to identify the person and their location, mobilising appropriate help and support.
What can students do with the app?
The app can do much more than just raise alerts: Students or staff using the app can also do the following:
- Raise a request for First Aid assistance in case anyone is injured or hurt
- Get access to our Wellbeing Team or, if outside college hours / grounds, quick links to other organisations that can provide support
- Report an issue with IT
- Report any damage to facilities or buildings
- Track the location of our on-campus shuttle buses (Moulton campus only)
- Be notified of any bus delays or campus closures.
Why is Moulton College introducing a safety app?
The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance and, although we operate in a very safe environment, we are also conscious that our campus is spread over a very large area and it can be difficult for people to contact our Security Team if they need support. In addition this particular app offers many more features that we feel will be useful to our community.
How much does it cost?
The app is free to download for all students and staff.
Do all students have to download the app?
Downloading the app is not compulsory but we are encouraging all of our students and staff to download the app because it provides a quick and secure way for people to reach our Security Team and get any support that they may need.
What happens if someone presses the Emergency button in error?
If you press the Emergency button in error the app does give you the chance to immediately cancel the emergency call. The Security Team will try to reach the person by phone in the first instance however, if this is not possible, they will travel to where the alert has been raised. Anyone found to be using the app maliciously will be subject to the usual college disciplinary procedures.
Where can I find out more information?
The attached presentation includes more information about the app and how it can be used to enhance our students' experience of studying at Moulton College. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact our SafeZone team by email.
